The redevelopment works for the energy, seismic and environmental upgrading of the Public Residential Housing (ERP) buildings in Salerno’s Historic Centre have been completed, as part of the “Safe, Green and Social” programme, funded through the Complementary Fund to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The project, developed and managed by the Cooprogetti–Polis Progetti team, under the supervision of the Public Works Department of the Municipality of Salerno, involved four buildings in the “Le Fornelle” neighbourhood, focusing on improving residential comfort, energy efficiency and structural safety. The buildings have been upgraded to energy class B through improvements to the building envelope, new windows and boilers, thermostatic valves and mechanical ventilation systems, together with interventions aimed at improving their seismic performance. The redevelopment also extended to the surrounding public spaces and green areas, including works to restore Santa Teresa Beach, the regeneration of Piazza Cavour and the green area on Via Matteo D’Aiello, as well as the maintenance and renewal of some of the neighbourhood’s pavements and pedestrian routes. An integrated intervention in which building redevelopment goes hand in hand with the regeneration of urban space and the enhancement of the neighbourhood’s identity. As part of this process, the restoration of the façades also contributed to the “Muri d’Autore – Parco della Poesia di Strada” initiative, promoted by the Alfonso Gatto Foundation together with the Municipality of Salerno, through works by international artists. With the completion of the works, the “Le Fornelle” neighbourhood returns to the city with renewed, more accessible and functional spaces, through a project that combines the regeneration of the building heritage, the quality of public space and careful consideration of the historic and urban context.
