Extension of the railway network on the Catania metro line from Galatea station to Giovanni XXIIII station

The project of the Galatea-metro route Giovanni XXIII is part of the program of upgrading and transformation of the railway line initiated by the Circumetnea Railway to gradually transform the current narrow-gauge line into an ordinary and electrified gauge line. Within the urban areas of Catania and Misterbianco and on the sub-metro route to Paternò, the line will have the characteristics of a metropolitan railway to which the rest of the line will be connected.
The aforementioned program of the Circumetnea Railway aims at the realization of a metro network in the urban areas of Catania, Misterbianco and within the suburban territory up to Adrano; it also aims at the modernization of all the routes included in the remaining part of the current railway route around the volcano between Adrano and Riposto.
The route starts from the Giovanni XXIII station, part of the Giovanni XXIII-Stesicoro section, contracted in April 2005. At the exit of the station there is a right curve of radius 121 m, followed by a straight that develops for almost the entire length of the track, and then ends on a right curve of radius of 200 m that reconnects the track on Piazza Galatea.
