Yesterday afternoon, in the presence of President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano, the project for the transformation and enhancement of the complex into a library center for the history of archaeology, which includes the rationalization and transfer of the current library holdings of Palazzo Venezia, was presented at Palazzo San Felice, the historic home of the Quirinal lodgings.

The project drawn up by Cooprogetti and Spi, under the guidance of architect Mario Botta, will be carried out by Romano Costruzioni. The center will cover a total area of 8,000 square meters and will house spaces for research and scientific study. Inside, traditional library functions (storage for a development of 12 km of shelving) will be associated with spaces for dissemination and reception (auditorium and foyer), rooms for workshop activities, exhibition routes and in-depth workshops on book restoration.

“A great satisfaction for the whole design team,” says architect Edoardo Filippetti of Cooprogetti in charge of the architectural project, “our task was to make technically feasible the project of cultural enhancement of the entire complex, a great opportunity for growth in the relationship with the architect Mario Botta, the General Directorate of State Property, the Ministry of Culture, the Quirinale and the Presidency of the Council.
