The Cosenza Civic Library has been given a new lease of life thanks to a comprehensive project involving seismic upgrading, energy efficiency improvements, and functional redevelopment of one of the city’s most significant historic and cultural landmarks. The project successfully combined the preservation of the building’s architectural and historical value with enhanced structural safety, improved energy performance, and greater accessibility, in full compliance with the Italian Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM). The design approach, based on Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the ITACA Protocol, ensured the integrated management of restoration works, structural interventions, and building systems throughout the project. The redevelopment also included the computerization and digitization of the library’s collections, together with the reorganization of consultation and archive areas developed in collaboration with library science specialists, creating a more accessible, functional, and community-oriented cultural space. The project was carried out by Cooprogetti, in a Temporary Association of Companies (ATI) with SAB S.r.l., in collaboration with Architect Maurizio De Luca, who served as Construction Director (Direttore dei Lavori).
