Sanitation and safety of the former landfill in the area “Marinella” in the municipality of Pizzo

The project involves the sanitation and permanent safety of the former landfill site in “Marinella” in the municipality of Pizzo (VV). As part of the necessary measures to adapt to the current legislation of illegal landfills on the national territory, the site of the former landfill called “Marinella” is located about 250 meters from the mouth of the Angitola River (on the hydraulic left), near the beach, and about 600 meters from the SS 522. The surrounding area is mainly cultivated and equipped with agricultural greenhouses.
Considering that the site was exceptionally and temporarily used in 1991 as a landfill by the Municipality of Pizzo and subsequently seized by the authorities for the lack of all safety requirements, the project is therefore part of the necessary measures to adapt to the current legislation of illegal landfills on national territory. The interventions of the project concern prevention measures, operational and permanent safety of the area, remediation, restoration, and environmental- landscape rehabilitation of the former landfill.
