New Comprehensive Hospital of Gubbio – Gualdo Tadino

The hospital is made up of a compact sequence of steps, translated into a predominantly horizontal structure and integrated into the landscape: the slope of the land allows for a ‘green’ terraced pattern that, thanks to the roof-garden, creates a historical evocation. The buildings, with a north-south orientation, are functionally interconnected. The plate, oriented to the south and intended to house the main diagnostic and treatment functions and the general services, is composed of 4 separate bodies, spread over 3 floors above ground and one totally underground. The inpatient unit, to the north, consists of a building in which the inpatient wards are located on 2 floors; the hinge element, located between the plate and the inpatient unit at L2, houses the main entrance, public services, auditorium, chapel, bar and outpatient clinics. The technological centre, connected to the hospital by a plant tunnel, is located to the west of the complex and is also partially underground and with a garden roof.
