Monumental Complex of Santa Maria del Popolo degli Incurabili
Participation in the competition for the redevelopment, repurposing, and restoration of the Monumental Complex of Santa Maria del Popolo degli Incurabili in Naples. The goal of the project is to restore the ‘Incurabili’ to the surrounding urban fabric with new routes interspersed with spaces for public use, thus achieving a renewed direct relationship between ‘Caponapoli’ and the ‘Città bassa’. The design proposal settles the interference between health, museum and residential areas, in line with the requests of the tender, by providing separate accesses and internal flows. The new ruins provide for the use of large reception spaces on the ground floor and access to the medical clinics, the medical links for the departmental areas of the hospitalization, pulmonary rehabilitation, as well as the admission of the acute health issues, without any interference. The new semi-hypogeum element (Armanni Street) features centralized logistics, a pharmacy, sterilization, cafeteria area, a staff entrance and the new technology center. Corte S.Maria delle Grazie is used as an Alzheimer’s day care center, and has its own entrance. The functionalized Museum Area, divided into thematic areas, houses a cafeteria, a bookshop, classrooms and exhibitions. Finally, the culture hub includes the library and auditorium with independent access.
