Hydrogen Production and Distribution Plant at the Cosenza Vaglio Lise Railway Depot

The project involves the construction of a hydrogen production, storage and distribution plant at the Cosenza Vaglio Lise Railway Depot, operated by Ferrovie della Calabria. The plant, located in the southeastern area of the depot, will be used to refuel hydrogen-powered trains and buses. At the heart of the system is a PEM electrolysis-based production plant with a total capacity of 5 MW, supported by auxiliary power supply control and management systems (Balance of Plant) that help create a sustainable energy infrastructure with reduced environmental impact that will ensure the efficiency of regional rail transport.

The system includes two hydrogen distributors for trains to ensure continuity of service in case of maintenance of one of them and a hydrogen distributor for buses.

The project is complemented by a renovation and expansion of the railway equipment to accommodate and support the new hydrogen trains, thus increasing the operational capacity of the depot.
