Capo D’Armi Tunnel SS160 Jonica – DG 03-17 / Scheduled maintenance of bridges, viaducts and tunnels, relating to lot 6 ANAS – Calabria

The project involves the construction of a new tunnel as an alternative to the current Capo d’Armi viaduct (km 21+000 of the S.S. 106 “Jonica” road), which will be closed to traffic. The project, part of the road network modernisation and safety programme promoted by ANAS, aims to reduce the load on the existing viaduct and improve traffic safety. The tunnel, located on the Capo dell’Armi promontory (Lazzaro, Municipality of Motta San Giovanni, RC), will be a single-arch, two-way tunnel, approximately 456 metres long (367 m natural and two artificial entrances of 68 m and 21 m). The section complies with category C1 secondary extra-urban roads, with a 3.75 m lane in each direction and 1.50 m external shoulders. The project also includes secondary roads to ensure the functionality of the local network and reduce inconvenience to residents.
