Arnovecchio irrigation system in the municipality of Empoli (FI)

The functional purpose of the project is to provide water to irrigated agricultural crops during the seasonal period when stress situations may occur due to deficits in the local soil water balance. The maximum irrigable area envisaged within the new district will be approximately 1.27 square kilometres (127 ha). The project intervention envisages the construction of an irrigation system with distribution to demand and pressure adduction with water resource drawing from one of the small lakes resulting from the mining activities of the 1970s, located on the south-east side of the old Arno meander. The project envisages the construction of the lifting and booster system and the adduction network up to the intake points of the irrigation units. From the intake points, individual farmers will then define the most suitable distribution system to meet their needs and requirements. The project aims to reduce the energy footprint by using a floating photovoltaic park with storage systems to power the lift system, ensuring optimal energy efficiency. The entire plant will also be subject to constant monitoring by means of a special remote control system, capable of guaranteeing remote maintenance and control.
