Anna Frank Primary School, Pesaro
The project involves the demolition and reconstruction of the current “Anna Frank” Primary School in Pesaro. The decision to demolish and rebuild on the same municipally-owned site is due to the high environmental quality of the existing building’s location, which lies within the Colle San Bartolo Park, protected for its natural, landscape, and environmental values. The site meets excellent health and acoustic standards and is situated away from high-traffic roads and densely populated areas. Moreover, the location allows, without further major modifications to the lot, easy access and the efficient organization of open spaces to accommodate play and sports facilities. The new construction will comply with all current regulations regarding seismic safety, environmental sustainability, and energy efficiency, while exploring innovative solutions that do not cause significant environmental impact. The school can no longer be considered merely as a container for students to “attend lessons”; it must first be reimagined as a place to inhabit. The primary users of the building—teachers, students, and school staff—deserve to spend a significant portion of their day in spaces designed as living environments, democratic, generous, inspiring, and open to all citizens. For this reason, the new school building has been conceived as a Community Center, a multifunctional facility usable throughout the day by different segments of the population, not exclusively during school hours by students and teachers.
