OICE took part on November 6th in the event organized by GBC Italia within the framework of ECOMONDO, with Architect Elisa Crimi representing the OICE Environmental Working Group (GdL OICE Ambiente). The event focused on the project SONATA – Innovation and Multidomain Comfort for Sustainable Building.

In her speech, Arch. Elisa Crimi, Technical Director of the OICE member company Cooprogetti, highlighted the main challenges that OICE-associated organizations face when integrating the concept of well-being into engineering and architectural projects.

Among the critical issues raised were: the fragmentation of the building process, which must evolve towards integrated design and project management models, and the complexity of the regulatory framework, in which multidomain comfort is gaining increasing importance.

Crimi also stressed the need for specialized training and shared cultural growth on the importance of Healthy Buildings, together with greater client awareness of the value of environmental comfort. Regarding adaptive technologies, she pointed out the perception of complexity that limits their adoption, emphasizing the importance of interoperability, standardization, and more user-friendly solutions.

In conclusion, the architect drew attention to privacy, cybersecurity, and data transparency, underlining the need for an ethical, human-centered approach throughout the design and management process.

Other speakers included Marco Caffi, Director of GBC Italia and member of Ecomondo’s Scientific Committee; Anna Laura Pisello, Full Professor of Building Physics at the University of Perugia; Andrew Vande Moere, Professor of Design Informatics at KU Leuven; Gaetano Settimo, Istituto Superiore di Sanità; Ilaria Bertini, ENEA – Energy Efficiency Unit; Veronica Lucia Castaldo, RSE – Energy System Research; and Alessandro Miani, SIMA – Italian Society of Environmental Medicine.

The event represented an important opportunity for dialogue among institutions, experts, and stakeholders in the construction sector to share strategies and common visions toward a sustainable, resilient, and people-centered development model.
