A diagnosis and a protocol for waste sorting have been developed in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), in Argentina, for the Environmental and Sustainable Development Ministry of the Nation (MAYDS), with funding provided by the Inter-American Development Bank.
This is a management tool for the MAYDS and the 41 municipalities that compose the AMBA – with over 15 million inhabitants in 2010 -, in order to implement Comprehensive Management systems for the City’s Solid Waste, based on strategic intervention plans to reduce final waste disposal. The objective was to propose public policies at a regional level, to unify the criteria of differentiated waste collection of the city’s solid waste, and to lay the foundations for a successful policy.
