New hospital centre in Apuane
The New Hospital Complex of the Apuane is located in the territory of Marina di Massa, in a green peripheral area and surrounded by sparse residential construction, located near the highway exit, and a few hundred meters from the waterfront. The complex has three separate entrances (visitors and outpatients; emergency and urgency with helipad; staff and freight) and consists of two buildings: the main building, preceded by large parking areas, and the treasury building, facing the Emergency Department, also close to the service parking lots. The flows of patients, visitors, staff and goods, are clearly separated within the facility. Emergency-urgency patients immediately encounter the main diagnostics areas, that are also accessible to outpatients on the opposite side. The public has access to the ground floor and first floor, with separate vertical circulation nodes for the staff, who access their routes from the basement, while goods are transported by an automated system, through the tunnel connecting the treasury building, before reaching the wards. The building model considers the entire hospital building as an almost undifferentiated container, equipped with a structural mesh with a constant pitch in both directions, so that it can meet the needs of all health care functions and general services. The presence of a hydrogeological constraint and the level of the surface water table imposed the installation of only the general services in the basement, while all other functions are located above ground in an in-line body reserved for inpatient wards, located towards the southeast, and in a central plate for collective spaces, and diagnostics and treatment services.
