ASR 22 – A3 motorway ‘Salerno-Reggio Calabria’ – From km 148+000 to km 153+400

The project involves the modernisation and upgrading of a 5.4 km section of the A3 SA-RC motorway that crosses the border between the regions of Basilicata and Calabria and affects areas in the provinces of Potenza and Cosenza. The project begins at the northern entrance to the “Fossino” tunnel and, after crossing the natural gorges in the Macera Valley via a viaduct, ends at the Laino Borgo junction. The works, carried out in the late 1960s, show signs of advanced deterioration. The restoration and safety works concern all underground and outdoor structures, with minimal adjustments to the level to meet the structural requirements of the works. As regards the restoration, consolidation and protection of the road structure, the project involves stabilisation work on seven areas in a state of disrepair, using natural engineering techniques (double-twisted metal mesh vegetation coverings, support pilings, reprofiling).
