A two-day event filled with emotions, dreams coming true, top-level basketball, but above all, sports as a vehicle for inclusion and growth: this was the Eurocup 3, which took place for the second consecutive year in Reggio Calabria. The Palacalafiore, the city’s iconic sports arena, hosted this prestigious international sporting event, where our team, Reggio Bic, the wheelchair basketball team from Reggio, competed against the best teams from France, Israel, Spain, and Italy.

And they got off to a fantastic start, with a victorious Eurocup debut, dominating the tournament’s opening game by defeating Volpi Rosse Firenze with a clear 76-59 victory. Coach Cugliandro’s team imposed their game from the very first minutes, managing the match with tactical intelligence and high intensity. Their performance remained outstanding in the following games as well. In fact, they also triumphed over Vigo and, in a match that will go down in history as one of the most thrilling of this Eurocup 2025, they secured a spot in the Eurocup Final Eight by defeating Beit Halochem Tel Aviv.

Not to mention last night’s final match against Paris, where Fisiosanisport Reggio Bic dominated the French team Capsaaa Paris with a commanding 82-41 victory. A match that was never in doubt, in which Coach Cugliandro’s squad showcased their technical and tactical superiority, earning a place among the top eight teams in the Eurocup 2025. In April, they will fly to Turkey to compete in the Final Eight, in an incredibly high-level setting.

Another historic sporting achievement by Reggio Bic, and a true spectacle for those present at the Palacalafiore, packed with basketball fans, children, and young supporters, as well as for the many spectators tuning in from around the world. A great source of pride for the city of Reggio Calabria and for all those who have supported the team, such as Fisiosanisport—whose name the Bic now carries—and all other sponsors.

On this occasion, architect Elisa Crimi, Head of Diversity, Inclusion, and Gender Equality at Cooprogetti, an engineering firm with offices in Italy and worldwide that supported Reggio Bic in this extraordinary journey, stated: “We are very proud to have contributed to supporting this important Reggio-based reality and to have been part of this project promoting sports, culture, and integration. We believe in sports as a tool for unity and personal growth, which is why we strongly support initiatives that foster participation and inclusion.”

And this was precisely the atmosphere that could be felt throughout these two days in the city—the great basketball played by Reggio Bic, culminating in a well-deserved reward for the hard work and sacrifices made since the beginning of the season, strongly backed by the community. A succession of thrilling sporting events where the protagonists were young athletes who teach us every day to fight, to never give up, and to prove that with determination, even what seems impossible can become reality.
