On December 7, 2024, the Mayor of Montevarchi, Dr. Silvia Chiassai Martini, officially inaugurated the new section of the Arno Cycle Path, connecting Ospedale della Gruccia to Ponte Leonardo in Montevarchi (AR). In the presence of local cycling associations, the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony at the pedestrian bridge over the Borro del Giglio marked another significant step forward in the development of a major sustainable mobility infrastructure.
Project Details:
-Length: The newly inaugurated section spans approximately 4 km, entirely within the Municipality of Montevarchi, along the left bank of the Arno River.
-Surface: Travertine crushed stone pavement with a width of 3 meters.
-Bridges: Two metal-frame pedestrian bridges:
-
- 33 m over Borro del Giglio
- 14 m over Borro di Spedaluzzo
The detailed design was carried out by an RTP team led by Chiarini Associati, with contributions from Arch. M. Baqué, Arch. R. Conover, and Geol. L. Pagliazzi. The construction supervision was entrusted to Eng. Remo Chiarini of Cooprogetti, while the project manager (RUP) was Eng. Deborah Romei from the Municipality of San Giovanni Valdarno (AR), which served as the contracting authority.
The Arno Cycle Path will eventually cover approximately 270 km, starting from Canto alla Rana (Pratovecchio-Stia) in the Upper Casentino and reaching Marina di Pisa. This scenic route will pass through picturesque riverside areas, connecting the communities along Italy’s second-longest river in the peninsular territory.
Another milestone in promoting sustainable mobility, tourism, and well-being!
